BHS: Improving School Spirit
We discussed ways to improve the school spirit at Byrnes yesterday. Now I would like for you to think more about this and write about what we, as a school community can do to work towards an even greater environment of Rebel Pride. Think about what individual classes (seniors, juniors, and sophomores), as well as teachers, administration, school district personnel, and you as an individual Byrnes Rebel might do to generate more enthusiasm for the entire school community.

BHS: You are a giraffe!
After the previous post and our discussion about Autumn the giraffe from the Greenville Zoo, write from the perspective of a giraffe.
You can be Autumn, the giraffe who the world is anxiously waiting on to deliver her calf, Walter, her mate who has been separated from her during this last stage of pregnancy, or the unborn calf who unbeknownst to him/her will be taking its first breaths in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers.

All creative writing students!
Here is the link to the stage of life website that offers a monthly writing contest. This month is optional unless you are choosing this instead of the Greatest Grandparent contest essay or the Letters about Literature writing contest.
Compose a rough draft and let's work on it through the revision process and then I'll help you upload it. Entries must be submitted before the month ends. You can explore the website and see past winners and prizes.
This month it focuses on how sports play a role in your family or if they do not. This might be especially relevant since Byrnes High School has such a strong tradition involving sports championships, etc.

BHS: Autumn the giraffe
After our discussion about Autumn the giraffe who is expected to give
birth any day now at the Greenville Zoo, I would like for you to think
about a few things. If you wish, research some information about
giraffes - maybe the gestational period (pregnancy length), giraffes
giving birth in captivity, or something else associated with giraffes and their calf. Also, why do
you think nearly a quarter of a million people are following her on
earthcam.com:
http://www.earthcam.com/usa/southcarolina/greenville/
Is there something about animals in general that tug at our hearts or is it just nice to have a "good" news story?
Would you be interested in watching the live birth of her calf? Why or why not.

BHS: Look at yesterday's assignment (Thurs. 10/11) and now that the debate is over. Do some research on news sites (cnn, msnbc, fox news, etc) and tell me what you think about the debate and the coverage of it. Who did better? There was a lot of talk about it being very heated, confrontational, and even at times rude. Do you agree?
Also - it is called a DEBATE - isn't it suppose to be a little heated because the two debaters don't agree on the issues. That's why we have debates. Do you think the public opinion and the media have been overly sensitive about the candidates' performances?

BHS: The Vice Presidential debate is tonight. Do some research on both candidates and tell me what issue you would most like them to address tonight. Also, who do you think will come out stronger after tonight's debate? Think about experience and on camera presentation. Will you be watching tonight? Why or why not. Does a vice president candidate sway who you will vote for and why?
